On why would Apple take HTC’s money for patents
Just a quick thought. After seeing HTC’s new One device, it kinda struck me: Apple doesn’t need HTC’s money. Why would they license their patents to HTC? Why only after seeing the new HTC One? Well, the front side looks like an iPhone, it uses some Apple-like shortcuts (long press for Google Now, double tap home for running apps, for instance) and those are probably not the only ones. Why would Apple take HTC’s money if they don’t need it?
The answer is simple, actually: to kick Samsung’s ass. Why should Apple fight on their own against Apple, when there HTC that can eat a big piece of Samsung’s pie? Especially after HTC announced that they’ll run some new marketing strategies - which would actually include ad spending, something they wouldn’t imagine one year ago and the same thing Samsung is doing for some years now, hence their sales.
Basically, Apple is trying to kick some Samsung ass on their own territory: Android. This should make the game even more interesting. And fun.
As I said, it’s just a quick thought.
